Weekend at Esalen

Regenerative Color
Weekend of March 16-18th
Did you know that many of the dye colors we wear are coal tar based? Renewable color alternatives are plant derived and made from the earth's annually produced resource base. Everyone is welcome to bring their own 6 oz. of yarn, and we will supplement with complimentary local wool samples, and a range of organic cotton and other cellulose fiber samples. You'll walk away with a book of native color! Local yarns we provide are from our region, if you choose to supplement our 2 oz. complementary offering, there are more yarns available here: at Fibershed Marketplace
Explore the biological diversity of the California coast and learn which native, naturalized, and even invasive species can be used to create a wide array of beautiful natural dye colors. We will see how to bind our color to locally produced, farmed, and milled raw fibers through the use of the ocean's salty waters. Each of these processes will bring you one step closer to utilizing your local “fibershed”—the natural and immediate landscape that has the potential to clothe you. This is a weekend workshop that will provide a full scale learning opportunity for all participants who wish to replicate this process for themselves in their own home lands.
